As a result of these illegal mining operations, several hectares of land have been degraded, leading to environmental destruction and loss of arable land for agricultural activities.

In response, the District Assembly has outlined measures to restore the affected environment through land reclamation and afforestation programmes.

As captured in the 2023 District Composite Budget, the Assembly plans to reclaim and plant trees on about ten (10) hectares of degraded land as part of efforts to restore the ecological balance and promote environmental sustainability.

The initiative is expected to help mitigate the negative impact of illegal mining, improve soil quality, and support long-term environmental conservation efforts in the district.

The Assembly continues to emphasize the importance of responsible environmental management and calls on stakeholders to support efforts aimed at protecting natural resources for future generations.
