The session brought together key stakeholders in the agriculture sector to review activities undertaken during the previous year and assess their impact on farming communities across the district. It also provided a platform for participants to identify challenges affecting agricultural development and propose practical solutions for incorporation into the district’s subsequent annual action plan.
Participants included the District Overall Best Farmer, Best Crop Farmers in the cereals and vegetables categories, Best Poultry Farmer, Best Livestock Farmer, Best Female Farmer, representatives of Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs), Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD), Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs), and staff of the District Department of Agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South East, Mr. Ibrahim-Yamba Nelson Issaka, commended stakeholders for their contributions to the growth of agriculture in the district. He noted that increased food and livestock production could significantly contribute to Ghana’s economic development.
He stated that the government had introduced interventions such as the “Feed Ghana” programme to enhance farmers’ capacity and improve productivity in the district.
The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Raymond Ocloo, urged farmers to continue working closely with Agricultural Extension Agents to achieve better outcomes in their farming activities. He also appealed to the District Assembly to provide adequate funding to enable the department to effectively carry out its mandate.
According to him, the District Department of Agriculture had experienced funding challenges for nearly three years, a situation that had affected the smooth execution of its activities.
Madam Yaa Pokua, the Ashanti Regional Extension Officer, took participants through key areas including constraints analysis, priority gridding, frequency table formulation, and supporting statements, which she described as essential tools for promoting sustainable and increased agricultural production.
