Techiman MCE embarks on familiarization tour

The tour enables the MCE to introduce himself to the communities, interact with them, to seek first-hand information of their challenges and ways of solving. He also sought the support of the chiefs, opinion leaders, Assembly members and Unit Committee members to enable him deliver to his mandate.
The first point of visit by the MCE familiarization tour team was at Forikrom. The MCE paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Forikrom, Nana Okogyeaman Basahyia Kesse II, who is also the Benkumhene of Techiman Traditional Council at his palace. The Krontihene for Forikrom, Nana Ayiso Donyina II deputized for the Chief who was absent. A mini durbar was organized in honour of the MCE at the palace.

The Krontihene in his welcome address outlined some of the challenges the community faces to the MCE for action and redress. Among the challenges include poor infrastructural facilities for the community such as poor road network, drainage system for the community and inadequate classrooms for the Day Care, Primary and Junior High School (JHS). He pleaded to the MCE to provide Kesse Basahyia Senior High School an additional four (4) classroom block facilitate to promote teaching and learning in the school.
The Krontihene also appealed to the MCE to replace some electricity poles that were weak and provide streets bulbs to replace the old once that were not working. “In the night the whole community is darkness and that poses security threat to residents”, he said.
The chief further appealed to the MCE to provide mechanized boreholes to communities that has water difficulties such as ‘Yemuhu-Aga’, Boamkrom, Ampemkrom, Asumafour and Benkaee.
Touching on government policies, he advised the youth to take their education seriously as well as their studies in order to benefit from the Free Senior High School Fees Policy. He said over GH?10,000 fertilizers has been provided to Techiman by the government for the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ which would create employment for the people of Techiman and Ghana as a whole.
The MCE assured the people that, he will use his good office to fix their road network as well as their lighting system.To encourage trading activities and generate revenue for the Assembly the MCE pledged to create satellite markets for the communities to enable them sell their farm produce.
He assured some of the communities with network problem that efforts were made for telecom companies to site their mast at vantages points to boost communication through network(s) services in the various communities. Some of the communities visited so far include Fiaso, Bamire, Asantanso, Woraso and Attabourso. Others include Kuntunso, Tanoso and New Techiman.
Some of the issues which cut across almost all the communities were water challenges, poor roads network and electricity extension. Others were development of satellite markets, security, education and health issues among others. In all the communities visited, the MCE assured the chiefs and the people that action would be taken on the various challenges they raised.
