According to her, despite the fact that women are increasingly involved in politics especially at the local level, their representation remains significantly lower than men.
She attributed the current trend of events to factors such as low incomes, low educational status and lack of confidence as a few instances that discourage women from competing with their male counterparts for top positions.
She added that the situation can however be altered if women are encouraged to come to the realization that they share equal capabilities like men.
The Minister, who was speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com following the unveiling of NALAG’s strategic documents at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Hall, Wednesday, to serve as compass to lead the Association into a new era said,” the time has come for women to play active role in Ghana’s decentralization processes.”
The strategic documents, which involve Gender; Advocacy; and communication are rooted in research, shaped by stakeholder consultation and designed to enhance accountability, inclusivity and resilience expected to reposition the association and ensure effectiveness and efficiency in local governance and decentralization.
Meanwhile, the Gender strategy seeks to encourage women participation in active politics and also draw them to take on positions in key areas of governance especially at the local level.
