The ultra-modern facility is expected to significantly enhance pediatric care by providing improved space, equipment, and specialized services for young patients. The project reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that children receive quality and timely medical attention.

The initiative was spearheaded by LOVE WITHOUT WALLS FOUNDATION, a Jamaica/United States-based non-governmental organization, under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Hartford Dawson. The vision for the project dates back to 2014 when Dr. Dawson identified the urgent need for expansion after observing overcrowding in the hospital’s children’s ward.

The Suhum Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Lydia Ohenewa Sarah, played a key role in supporting the project. The Assembly expressed its appreciation to the foundation for its dedication and financial support toward the successful completion of the facility.

Traditional authorities and community stakeholders also contributed to the realization of the project. Special recognition was given to Osabarima Nana Kofi Ayeh Opare I, Paramount Chief, for his guidance and support throughout the process.

The commissioning ceremony attracted high-profile guests, including Hon. Natalie Neita Garvey, Member of Parliament for St. Catherine North in Jamaica, as well as board members of the LOVE WITHOUT WALLS FOUNDATION. Their presence highlighted the importance of international collaboration in advancing healthcare development.

The new centre is expected to reduce congestion at the hospital and improve healthcare outcomes for children, ultimately contributing to efforts aimed at reducing child mortality in the municipality.
