DBI District Boosts Healthcare, Water Access with New Projects

Healthcare delivery in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District has received a boost following the renovation of a medical doctor’s bungalow, the provision of 10 modern delivery beds and the commissioning of 19 water projects.

The projects, undertaken by the District Assembly under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), James Wor, are aimed at improving healthcare delivery, maternal care and access to potable water.

At a ceremony at the Issa Polyclinic, the Assembly handed over the renovated bungalow to the district’s only medical doctor, Acting Medical Superintendent, Dr. Paschalina Langmagne.

The poor condition of the facility had previously forced Dr. Langmagne to commute more than 80 kilometres daily from Wa to Issa, affecting her ability to respond promptly to emergencies.

Dr. Langmagne expressed relief over the renovation, saying the daily journeys had been physically and emotionally challenging.

The Assembly also supplied 10 modern delivery beds to facilities including the Issa Polyclinic and Fian Health Centre to replace old and damaged equipment.

Mr Wor said an inspection of health facilities revealed serious challenges, including broken delivery beds being supported with stones, putting expectant mothers at risk.

The renovation and delivery beds cost more than GH¢300,000 and were funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Dr. Langmagne, however, appealed for a functioning official vehicle, saying the district’s only vehicle had been grounded for more than a month, forcing her to use her personal car for official duties.
