The exercise, which included blood glucose test, blood pressure check, eye test, body mass index, hearing test, breast cancer examination, and counseling, was one of church’s strategic tools of taking the Gospel to the population.

Aside the health screening, the church embarked on evangelism within the market to preach the gospel and win souls for Christ.

It also established a “Special Jesus Shop" where participants selected clothes of their choice for free.

Addressing the media, the Reverend Dr. Kofi Amfo-Akonnor, Senior Minister, Ramseyer Congregation, said the church was basically fulfilling the assignment Jesus Christ commanded it to do.

Referencing the Gospel of Luke, he said Jesus Christ commanded the church to preach the word of God to the poor, those imprisoned by sin and the sick just as He did.

“We are here to continue the work our Lord Jesus Christ did on earth and what He gave us a commandment,” Rev. Dr. Amfo Akonnor said. ”We are here basically with three things; first to pronounce the Gospel of Jesus Christ; secondly we have come to screen people and give them drugs free of charge; the third thing is what we call ‘Jesus Shop’ and what we have done is that we have brought clothes for the people.”

Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor mentioned the social development projects that the PCG was known for, including the construction of schools and hospitals to benefit society.

He gave the assurance that the church would continue to organise such programmes for the people and advised Ghanaians to be mindful of what they consumed to ensure good health.

“Our prayer is that our people will take good care of their health. If you have life, you have everything. I will plead with our mothers and fathers and everybody to take good care of their health because that's the good thing for them to do,” he said.

Rev. Joseph Nii Odartey Acquah, Associate Minister, Ramseyer Congregation, said Jesus Christ did good wherever He went, hence the Church was expected to emulate His example.

He assured that more of such programmes would be conducted in other communities to fulfill the commandment of Jesus Christ.

Madam Esther Fosu, a seamstress at Mallam market, and a beneficiary, expressed appreciation to the church for organising the screening, adding that it was a good intervention for most of the market women who were unbale to visit the hospital for regular check-up due to their work schedules.
