The districts, including Dormaa Central Municipality, Dormaa East District, and Dormaa West, were selected to pilot the project, a government initiative aimed at strengthening poultry production and reducing import.

Under the project, over 200 farmers in each constituency will receive four-week-old day-old chicks to raise and sell, with enhanced veterinary and animal health services to reduce disease outbreaks.

Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister, announced this at the Municipal Farmers' Day celebration to honor gallant farmers in the area.

The government is also promoting tree crop production, supporting cashew, mango, coconut, and shea value chains since the Bono Region is the nation's largest cashew producer, contributing nearly 45 per cent of national output.

He added that efforts were being made to standardize farm gate pricing, promote value addition, and expand export markets.

The region leads in maize, cashew, plantain, eggs, and poultry production, with a 12 per cent increase in maize yields and nine percent growth in rice production due to improved seed distribution and extension services.

The event recognised the hard work of farmers in the region, with stakeholders, including traditional leaders and government officials, in attendance.
