The storm destroyed the roofing of two classroom blocks, with dislodged roofing sheets landing on a nearby residential building and damaging its roof. No casualties were reported.
Addressing school authorities and community members, Mrs Asamoah expressed sympathy to the affected households and pupils and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to restoring the damaged structures.
“We are grateful that no life was lost. Education is very important to this Assembly, and we will not allow this situation to disrupt teaching and learning for long,” she said.
The DCE assured the affected household of immediate support and pledged to supply roofing sheets to help re-roof the damaged house, explaining that the Assembly would take responsibility since the damage was caused by the school’s roofing sheets.
She urged teachers and school authorities to manage the situation temporarily while the Assembly mobilised resources for renovation, encouraging pupils to continue attending school and remain focused on their studies.
Mrs Asamoah also directed the District Engineer, Mr. Bartholomew Amponsah, to assess the damage to facilitate immediate renovation work.
Mr. Kwabena Simon, the Headteacher of the school, appealed for urgent intervention, particularly for the kindergarten block, explaining that some classes had been merged to create space for KG 1 and KG 2 pupils.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, also assured the community of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the situation.
