The exercise, held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to promoting cleanliness, preventing environmental hazards, and encouraging active community participation in sanitation activities.

The clean-up exercise was led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Alfredos Nii Anyetei, together with the Municipal Coordinating Director, heads of departments, Assembly staff, janitors, and inmates from the Ghana Prisons Service.

Areas covered during the exercise included La Township, the Accra Mall enclave, Airport Bypass, Polo Heights, Kaajano, Cantonments, and the 37 Station area, among other communities within the municipality.

Participants engaged in sweeping streets, desilting choked gutters, clearing weeds, collecting refuse, and carrying out other sanitation activities aimed at improving environmental conditions in the affected areas.

The exercise also served as a public awareness campaign to educate residents on the importance of proper sanitation practices and discourage indiscriminate dumping of waste.

Residents and commuters commended the Assembly for the initiative and praised participants for their commitment toward keeping the municipality clean and healthy.

Addressing participants during the exercise, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei urged residents, traders, transport operators, and the general public to support the Assembly’s sanitation efforts by maintaining clean surroundings at all times.

He stressed that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility and called for continuous community involvement in sanitation and environmental protection activities.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining regular clean-up exercises to ensure a cleaner, safer, and healthier municipality for all residents.
