These were contained in the speech delivered by the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu Mrs. Jerryne Asante on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoako, at the second annual delegates congress of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) held on 12th September 2025, at the GNAT hostel in Krapa, a suburb of Ejisu, under the theme “Empowering the Youth for a sustainable Future: The Role of Nurses and Midwives”.
Hon. Jerryne Asante reiterated that the health sector has been prioritized as part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s broader agenda of resetting the country; as such government would expand health infrastructure which would generate direct employment for rotational nurses. Adding that gov’t’s introduction of risk exposure insurance is to provide financial support and relief for hazards encountered on the job.
She also assured them that there would soon be continuous recruitment through an open portal to ensure reliable, predictable and fair placement of rotational nurses and midwives. A sign of gov’t’s recognition of the sacrificial role and the desire for them to thrive..jpg)
The Municipal Public Health Nurse and a Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the Health Directorate, Mrs. Felicia Afua Duah, who also deputized for the Municipal Health Director, admonished them to be agents of empowering the youth in the communities so that the youth can take control of their lives as they develop their future potentials to reflect the theme for the occasion-empowering the youth for sustainable future.
She stated that even as they seek to make positive impact on the youth, they would face challenges. As such, it is imperative to collaborate with NGOs, opinion leaders including community members to bring counselling and mentorship to the youth as good advocates.
The Director, National Service Secretariat, Comrade Emmanuel Reagan Fynn, encouraged his comrades that though new infectious diseases have made health care delivery especially in low-income communities difficult, yet as caregivers they are innovators and should embrace the challenge to improve upon themselves in digital literacy and exchange programmes among other which would open doors for them to be enrolled onto the decision-making process to improve policy formation.
The Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the GRNMA, Philemon Adu Brempong, pleaded with gov’t to provide the over thousand nurses and midwives in the region with a rent to own accommodation facility such as affordable housing for them; adding that, this would bring relief to them as far as accommodation problem are concerned.
Other dignitaries who graced the programme were Madam Linda Fredua Agyeman, DDNS for Ejisu gov’t hospital, NDC former parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaso, Hon. Evang. Richard Prah and the regional PRO, MR Krampah who deputized for the president of the GRNMA.
