Swift Response from Ahafo Nadmo and Asunafo South DCE after fire hits Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery Training College

A swift and coordinated response from the Ahafo Regional office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Asunafo South District Chief Executive Yinkah Benjamin, helped contain the aftermath of a fire outbreak at the Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Asunafo South District.

The incident occurred at about 7:06 a.m. on Friday, 31st October, 2025, when fire reportedly broke out in one of the college’s facilities, destroying portions of school property and students’ personal belongings. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

Upon receiving information about the outbreak, Hon.(Mr.) Yinkah Benjamin, accompanied by officials from the Ahafo Regional NADMO, quickly visited the school to assess the extent of damage and offer immediate support to the management and students.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Yinkah expressed his sympathy to the affected students and commended the Ghana National Fire Service and members of the community for their swift intervention, which prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the campus. He assured the school authorities that the District Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO and other relevant agencies, would provide the necessary support to help restore normal academic activities.

As part of their intervention, the DCE and the Ahafo Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Gabriel Adu Bonsu, who also doubles as the Dean of all Regional Directors, presented relief items to the affected students.

The items included 50 mattresses, sponges, rubber buckets, and other essential supplies to help alleviate their immediate hardship.
Mr. Gabriel Adu Bonsu reaffirmed NADMO’s commitment to responding promptly to disasters and emergencies across the region. He also took the opportunity to educate students and staff on fire safety measures, emphasizing the need for proper use of electrical appliances and adherence to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Principal of the College, Mr. Kwame Adinkra Amo, expressed profound gratitude to Mr.Yinkah Benjamin, Mr. Gabriel Adu Bonsu, and their respective teams for their quick response and generous support. He appealed for additional assistance to help the institution replace damaged property and rehabilitate the affected facilities.

Some students who spoke to the media expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a frightening experience.

They also expressed their appreciation to the DCE, NADMO officials, and the Fire Service for their timely intervention and relief support. Many of them appealed for the provision of additional fire extinguishers and safety training to prevent future occurrences. The timely intervention and presentation of relief items by NADMO and the District Assembly brought immense relief and reassurance to both students and staff, who commended the authorities for their dedication, empathy, and swift action.
