The Minister’s first point of call was at the Dormaa palace and in his address he called on chiefs and kingmakers in the region to strictly rely on traditions, customs, and legal frameworks at their bosom to resolving chieftaincy disputes, especially during the enstoolment of new chiefs at their communities. The Minister noted that chieftaincy disputes were dissipating resources meant for development and drawing the region backwards.
The apex of some of these disputes he observes often arises when stools become vacant, tensions escalate among potential contenders and creating factions, and leading into violent clashes, resulting to injuries, destruction of properties and deaths. At Wamfie, Dormaa East, the Regional Minister made same passionate appeal to the chiefs and people in a grand durbar organized in his hounour. He called on the chiefs to give peace a chance and to rally behind him with their support to lobby and bring them the needed development. "I will plead with the chiefs and kingmakers to use traditions, customs, and the available laws in the processes of enstooling new chiefs when seats become vacant," he urged. He expressed his discontent with increasing security threats posed by such conflicts, warning that they undermine the peace, stability and development of the region. He cited several hotspots of chieftaincy disputes in region, including Sunyani, Berekum, Wenchi, Badu, Japekrom/Drobo, Fiapre, and the biggest of all, Sampa in the Jaman North District.
On government policies, the Minister said the interventions such as the "No Stress Fees" policy, "Mahama Care" and the "Akoko Nkitikitin," has all been initiated to bring reliefs and jobs creation to the people.
Touching on roads, he said work will begin on 36-kilometer Alaska outer ring road in Sunyani, Sunyani-Ntotroso, Kyeremasu-Gambia and Dormaa-Nkrantwanta stretches.
The Minister also assured the people of the government 24 hour economy market initiatives, which will have Police and Fire stations, clinics and school facilities for the people.
On illegal mining, the Minister warned on those involved to stop else, he will soon go after them for destroying the environment and polluting water bodies. Illegal mining was said to be taking place in Amasu, Aboabo, Akwamu, Wamfie, and Kyeremansu within the Dormaa Traditional Area and the Minister appealed to the chiefs to approach him or the security to plead for their release when these illegal miners are arrested.
Dormaa Twafohene and Kofiasuahene, Barimah Twumasi Bekoe, speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Dormaa, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, reminded government of the late President John Evans Atta Mills promise to build a university in Dormaa. He said 2,000 acres of land was released for the project and appealed to President John Mahama to fulfil that promise. The chief urged the government to provide support to revamp the poultry sector to create more jobs for the youth.
The tour enabled the minister to identify key areas for development, such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities and also demonstrated the government's commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsive governance, helping to build trust between citizens and government officials.
