The event was spearheaded by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Saboba, Mr George Bilimor Wumbei, who performed a ceremonial tree planting to mark the commencement of the initiative.

The exercise forms part of a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, restoring degraded lands, and encouraging citizens to actively participate in protecting the country’s natural resources.

Addressing participants, Mr. Wumbei underscored the importance of tree planting and urged residents to make it a priority. He noted that the Tree for Life Initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable national development.

He disclosed that the Saboba District is expected to receive 26,000 assorted tree seedlings, including teak, mahogany, neem, cashew, cassia, and weeping willow, for planting across the district.

According to the DCE, the initiative will strengthen environmental stewardship among residents while contributing to national efforts to increase forest cover and enhance ecological resilience.

Mr. Wumbei encouraged individuals, schools, farmers, workplaces, institutions, and community groups to actively participate in the exercise to ensure its success.

The launch ceremony was attended by heads of departments and units, district security officers, and members of the public, who pledged their support for the initiative.
