President Mahama breaks ground for 200MWp Solar Park at Agortor

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated Ghana’s commitment to leading Africa’s next phase of industrial transformation, focusing on clean and sustainable energy.

This significant announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for a 200-megawatt (MWp) solar power park at Agortor, situated within the Dawa Industrial Enclave in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.

This landmark initiative is part of the government’s strategy to expand renewable energy, aiming to diversify Ghana’s energy mix, stimulate industrial growth, and create sustainable job opportunities for its citizens.

The ceremony attracted a notable assembly of dignitaries, including Madam Linda Akweley Ocloo, Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku Mr.Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, District Chief Executive, Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram,traditional authorities, local leaders, and key stakeholders.

In her remarks, Madam Linda Akweley Ocloo praised President Mahama for his visionary leadership and equitable development agenda. She highlighted that this project would enhance industrial activity within the Dawa Industrial Zone and empower local communities through job creation and increased economic opportunities.

The MP emphasized that establishing such a large-scale renewable energy project in Shai-Osudoku represents a strategic investment aligned with the nation’s long-term energy security and industrialization goals.

Mr. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, the District Chief Executive for Shai-Osudoku, expressed his gratitude to the President for prioritizing the district in national initiatives.

He assured that the Assembly would provide comprehensive institutional and logistical support to ensure the project’s smooth and timely implementation.

He also noted that the solar park would not only enhance the district’s energy infrastructure but also position Shai-Osudoku as a hub for clean energy and industrial innovation in the sub-region.

Upon completion, the 200MWp Dawa Solar Park will deliver clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to industries and surrounding communities within the Dawa Industrial Enclave and beyond.

The project is anticipated to improve power stability, attract more investors, and accelerate socio-economic development across the district and the Greater Accra Region.
