The training aimed to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to leverage GIFMIS for improved financial management, aligning with the government's commitment to decentralization and local governance.

GIFMIS is a comprehensive system that streamlines and automates government financial operations, making it easier to manage public funds. With GIFMIS, the government can efficiently manage budgets, track expenditures, make informed decisions, and promote transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline.

The Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, emphasized the importance of the Chief Executives being proficient in the GIFMIS to ensure transparency and accountability in their financial dealings.

The Minister charged the MDCEs to enhance financial governance in their Municipalities and Districts, and encouraged them to actively participate in the training to grasp the concept. She emphasized that integrating GIFMIS into their operations would enable them to effectively manage financial transactions, improve accuracy, and promote accountability.

Mrs. Awatey also stressed the significance of local governance and urged the MDCEs to prioritize development projects, focusing on job creation, infrastructure development, and poverty alleviation.

She further encouraged them to enhance Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to reduce dependence on central government grants, promoting financial autonomy and sustainable development in their districts.

The Regional Co-ordinating Director, Yaw Adu-Asamoah, advised the Chief Executives to make good use of the training to minimize opportunities for corruption and ensure transparency in public financial management. He cautioned them against delegating powers to other officers at the assembly, especially junior staff, to use the GIFMIS.
