Nine-Member Regional AIDS Commission Committee inaugurated to tackle High HIV prevalence in Bono Region.

The committee, whose goal is to enhance the region’s capacity to deliver a robust and well-coordinated HIV response, address challenges such as new infections, stigmatization and discrimination is chaired by Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa Esq. Other members comprises of representatives from various organizations, including Health and Education Directorates, Ghana Aids Commission, and Civil Society Organisations.
In his inaugural speech, the Regional Minister, Mr. Akwaboa charged members of the Committee to deliver to their mandate with dedication, collaboration and foresight.
“Your work is critical to achieving a healthier and more resilient region”, he said.
He called on members of the Committee to strengthen coordination among all stakeholders to improve efficiency, synergy and impact.
They have also been tasked to align the region’s priorities with national strategies, to accelerate efforts toward achieving the 95-95-95 targets as well as sustain gains made and implement innovative approaches towards prevention, treatment and care.
The Minister re-iterated that the Committee and stakeholders presence reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the region’s HIV response and ensuring that no one in the Bono Region is left behind in the national effort to end AIDS as a public health threat.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Bambila, the Bono Regional Director of AIDS Commission in his presentation noted that the possible causes of the high prealence rate include Low condom use, Multiple sexual partnerships, Stigma and discrimination, in adequate sexual health education, Migration and mobility, Transactional sex and limited access to HIV services.
The inauguration highlights the government's commitment to combating HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to reduce new infections and support those affected.
The Committee was sworn-in by Justice Winnie Amoateng-Owusu of Sunyani High Court.
