Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Post-Budget Workshop of the Parliament of Ghana at Alisa Hotel in Accra on Saturday, November 15, 2025, she stated that the 2026 Budget comes at a crucial point in the nation’s economic journey where the country continues to contend with the lingering effects of fiscal strain, and public debt pressures. She added that despite some signs of stabilization, many challenges persist; “challenges that call for bold thinking, pragmatic policy, and transparent management. The economic difficulties our people face today, whether in the rising cost of living, high unemployment, or limited access to credit, demand that we, as representatives of the people, engage the Budget with clarity, compassion, and responsibility.
She asserted that the 2026 Post-Budget Workshop of the Parliament of Ghana is not merely a procedural event, but rather an affirmation of the collective resolve to make the national budget a true reflection of the people’s priorities. “It is a space where partisanship gives way to policy dialogue; where facts, analysis, and ideas take precedence over rhetoric; and where the national interest stands above political differences.”
The post-budget workshop, she stated serves as a vital platform for deep engagement and shared reflection; provides the opportunity to interpret, analyse, and interrogate the key assumptions, policies, and strategies underpinning the Budget. “It also prepares us to enter the formal debate in the House with a deeper understanding of the issues at stake and the implications of the choices being made. In many ways, this workshop transforms the Budget from a set of figures into a tool for real political and economic accountability.”
She reminded her colleagues that numbers alone do not tell the full story; adding that behind every statistic is a human face; the market woman struggling to keep her business afloat, the farmer waiting for fair prices and reliable roads, the teacher seeking better resources, and the young graduate hoping for meaningful work. “These are the real stakeholders in the Budget, and it is their aspirations that must shape our analysis and our advocacy.”
She assured that the Minority Caucus is committed to constructive engagement, supporting sound policies that advance national development while offering credible alternatives where policies fall short. “Our oversight function must be guided not by political expediency but by fidelity to the Constitution and loyalty to the Ghanaian people. Oversight, in its truest sense, is not an adversarial act; it is a collaborative duty to ensure that public resources are managed with integrity, efficiency, and fairness.”
Madam Patricia Appiagyei encouraged all and sundry to move beyond party lines to focus on what truly matters; how this Budget will impact the everyday lives of the people and the sustainability of the national finances.
