He disclosed his main agenda in his second tenure is to develop education and provision of portable drinking water by developing the necessary infrastructure to provide the service. Mr. Joseph Benhazin made the disclosure at a programme to commission a borehole water system for residents of Nweneso, a farming community in the Ntotroso Traditional area of Asutifi North District.
The project was sponsored by the US Embassy and implemented by Firm Foundation and Environment Ghana, a local non-Governmental Organization operating in the district. He explained, he was shifting to physical infrastructure because of governments policy of free education to enable schools contain and manage increase enrolments.
Joseph Benhazin appealed to the residents to take care of the facility to benefit generations by adopting good maintenance culture and called on the assembly to invest more in social programmes to compliment the contributions of donor partners for the benefit of all.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Firm Foundation and Environment Ghana, Yakubu Adosah appealed for support from the embassy to alleviate the suffering of the people in the area. He assured the project will stand the test of time and reduce the suffering of women and children who travel long distances in such of water and as well reduce health hazards associated with contaminated water sources.
He charged the water management committee to discharge their duties with commitment and professionalism and encouraged the contractor to collaborate with the committee to maintain the facility. The District Water and Sanitation Officer, Ahmed Awudu for his part, commended the US Embassy for their contribution towards the wellbeing of residents and Ghanaians at large.
He disclosed the assembly will organize a training programme for operators and managers of the facility to ensure its sustainability and efficient use and advised community members to active the early warning mechanism by always reporting faults through the laid down channels.
