Births and Deaths Registry schooled on document fraud detection
The Births and Deaths Registry (BDR) with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Ghana, the High Commission of Canada to Ghana, Togo and Sierra Leone and the Document Fraud Expertise Centre (DFEC) in Ghana spearheaded a one-day inception workshop on document fraud detection.
Date Created : 8/11/2023 : Story Author : Ghanadistricts.com
The workshop was organized to kick-start a series of training sessions for the staff of the BDR to equip them with the skills needed to detect fraudulent documents to enhance the integrity of its operations.
The Ag. Registrar of the BDR, Ms Henrietta Lamptey, in her welcome address said that her unit needed support in the form of infrastructure, funding, working equipment, systems, and capacity building in order to digitize, clear all manual backlogs and work efficiently.
As part of efforts to equip the BDR, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jeroen Verheul presented 50 magnifiers used for document checks, and mentioned in his address that identity and document verifications were not only important for government services domestically, but also internationally.
Thus, the cooperation was vital in order to prevent criminal groups from penetrating identity chains all over the world. The Minister of State of the MLGDRD Ghana, Osei Bonsu Amoah, assured the Registry and its partners that the ministry would ensure that the administering of births and deaths certificates in the country was genuine and authentic.
Finally, the first session of training would commence on the 15th of August, 2023 by the Dutch Immigration Liaison Officer, the Canadian Liaison Officer and an expert from DFEC.
