The Council of Bono and Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) is putting up the facility in Sunyani, the regional capital to enhance access and help tackle kidney related diseases.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II, also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, made the presentation at the just ended 2025 Annual Convention of the COBAANA, an association of Bono and Ahafo natives in North America, held in Denver, Colorado in the United States.
He urged Ghanaian residents in the US and Canada to unite as one people in their quest to foster developmental projects in their home country.
A statement issued and signed by Baffour Owusu Sika Aduomi, the General Secretary of COBAANA said the paramount chief was the special guest of honour at the fund-raising rally to climax the convention.
It said Dr. Nick Danso Abeam, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Link Network Service donated $50,000, while the Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions together donated $40,000 to support the project.
“The time has come for Ghanaians to put aside tribal differences as there’s strength in unity. Remittances from the diaspora to Ghana contributes immensely to the country’s GDP, however, excessiveness of import duty which is hindering the exportation of goods from North America, Europe, and other parts of the world to Ghana”, it quoted Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Badu II.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Badu decried the attitude and practice of some people in Ghana who mismanage resources sent to them from their relations abroad, leading many in the diaspora deciding not to remit to them for future projects.
It added that Osagyefo appealed to Ghanaian law makers to reverse the laws that prohibited dual citizens from being elected to parliament.
The three day-day convention well attended by COBAANA members from all 15 chapters spread across the United States and Canada was on the theme: “The health of our people is our concern” and saw other important dignitaries from Ghana, including traditional rulers from all the regions.
Amongst the dignitaries were Odeneho Dr. Afram Brimpong III, the Paramount Chief of the Suma Traditional Area and a member of Council of State, Mr. Kwadwo
Nyamekye Marfo, a former envoy and the Board Chairman of the Bui Power Authority, the managers of the Bui Generating Station.
Others include Mr. Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Elder Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the MP for Berekum East, Mr Dickson Kyere- Duah, the MP for Berekum West, Ms Millicent Amankwaah Yeboah, the MP for Sunyani West, Mr. Ransford Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sun City Group of Companies as well as well as Mrs Naquetta Ricks, Colorado state representative.
Dr. DeGraft Kwafo Gyan, the Chairman of COBAANA expressed his appreciation to the chiefs and queens, the MPs in the region and the immediate past and present COBAANA executives and all stakeholders for their support to help COBAANA achieve its goal of building the dialysis center.
“The COBAANA is also working on providing mechanized boreholes for some of the communities in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Region,” it added.
“The Ghanaian diaspora continues to be a powerful force in shaping both the image and the progress of our country.
Through remittances, investments, skills, and knowledge, Ghanaians abroad are helping to build schools, expand businesses, and provide opportunities for the next generation”, the statement quoted Nana Bennet Akantoa, who was the chairman of the event.
“Indeed, the diaspora is not just a support system for Ghana, it’s an extension of Ghana’s strength and vision for the future. Our journey however is not complete, we need to use this occasion not only to celebrate, but to commit to mentoring our youth, to lifting one another up, and to channeling our talents into ventures that transform lives both here in North America and back home in Ghana”, it added.
The three-day event was spiced with a tour to the red rocks mountains, youth talent night, and a party in the park picnic and climaxed with a fund-raising dinner dance at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in the Tech City of Denver.
