This achievement places the Twin City among the top-performing urban areas in Ghana when it comes to clean water accessibility. Households across the metropolis draw water from nine main sources, six of which are classified as potable.
These safe sources include in-house taps, in-yard taps, covered wells, public covered wells, boreholes, and public standpipes—all of which play a crucial role in supporting domestic, commercial, and institutional activities.
These safe sources include in-house taps, in-yard taps, covered wells, public covered wells, boreholes, and public standpipes—all of which play a crucial role in supporting domestic, commercial, and institutional activities.
However, not all water sources in the metropolis meet safety standards. Three sources—uncovered wells, surface water, and uncovered public wells—are considered non-potable, posing potential health risks to users. Despite this, the overwhelming reliance on safe water sources highlights the metropolis’s progress in improving water infrastructure and public health outcomes.
As Sekondi-Takoradi continues to expand, the strong presence of potable water options is helping to reduce waterborne diseases, improve sanitation, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. With ongoing investments and community awareness, the metropolis is well on its way to achieving even higher levels of safe water coverage.
