The praise follows a series of structured capacity-building programmes organized by the Assembly since the beginning of the year to strengthen institutional effectiveness and enhance service delivery. The training programme commenced with management staff, followed by Assembly Members, and was subsequently extended to Unit Committee Members demonstrating a comprehensive and inclusive approach to human resource development within the Assembly.

Adding his voice to the commendation was Dr. Fred Oduro, a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Local Government Studies. Dr. Oduro, who served as a facilitator for two of the workshops, lauded the foresight and strategic leadership of the Assembly’s management.

He particularly commended the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, for championing the initiative.

“I am impressed with this initiative. This is the way to go in our local government system. I hope other Assemblies will learn from this and emulate OMA. You have done well,” he remarked.

Dr. Oduro made these comments during a one-day capacity-building workshop organized for the Unit Committee Members. Key topics covered during the session included the Local Government Act, the duties and responsibilities of Unit Committee Members, and the various forms of decentralization practiced in Ghana. He outlined the three main types of decentralization—political, administrative, and fiscal—emphasizing their relevance to effective grassroots governance and local accountability.

In her address at the workshop, the Municipal Chief Executive encouraged participants to actively engage in the deliberations to deepen their understanding and improve their performance in their respective communities. She urged members to view their service not merely as a responsibility, but as a calling and a vital contribution to national development.

The workshop recorded an impressive attendance rate, with over 80 percent of the total Unit Committee membership participating. The strong turnout underscored the commitment of members to enhancing their knowledge and capacity in support of the Assembly’s development agenda.

The initiative reflects OMA’s dedication to strengthening local governance structures and ensuring that its frontline actors are well-equipped to drive sustainable development at the community level.
