TANO S: Becheman celebrates Adekyem Festival
The good people of Bechem celebrates the 4th Edition of Adekyem Festival under the Theme “Unity and Development “.

Adekyem” literally means a place where items or gifts are shared. The name of the festival reminds the historical role of Bechem as a place here gains from Ashanti wars were shared after the War over Doorma, Nana Osei Tutu 1 and his Victorious war leaders sat to share their booty. The Chief are told to have said “Yebekye mu wo ha" hence, the name Bechem.
The Bechem Traditional Area is made up of the following towns and villages: Bechem, Dwomo, Terchire and Tanoso, this together are known as “Atanofo Akrotuonna”. It’s an occasion of homecoming of natives who have travelled outside the town receives tourists from all walks of life.
The chairman for the occasion who is a young entrepreneur by name Mr Enoch Kofi Asamoah Agyapong spoke the rich culture heritage of the people of Tano South and pleaded for support from all navies to make the occasion a memorable one.
Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto 11, The Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area and the President of the Bechem Traditional Council in his address stated that this 4th edition of festival is in aid of building an eye clinic. He therefore entreated all and sundry to get involved to foster growth and development.
On the part of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, he touted some of the achievements of the government among which include the completion of 48 projects inherited from the previous government because the NPP government believes in continuity.
Among them include construction of CHPs compound at Ada, Children and female ward at Derma, construction 20 toilets, 10 boreholes, .water project at Borankso, sponsoring of vacation classes for student, allocation of 60, 000 of MPs common fund for school fees, supporting three Imams to Mecca and many more.
The Minister for employment and Labour, Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah who stood in for the guest of honour the President of the Republic of Ghana, noted in his keynote address that, the President is happy about the peace and stability in the municipality. Again he has given the Assembly an ultimatum of one year to construct an Eye Clinic.
During the electioneering year, a call for a creation of a region was asked by the people and so His Excellency Nana Addo heeded to the call and has acted in accordance with the constitution to the creation of a new region. “Now, the ball is in your court to kick the ball by exercising your franchise on 27th December 2018 to get a region of your own” he stated.
Deputy Minister for Road and Highways spoke on all town roads to receive a facelift. However it has been advertised in the dailys awaiting to commence. Areas to benefit are; St. Joseph college school roads, School for the Deaf, Presby SHS, Breman and Magazine roads, Bechem to Techimantia to Akomanda roads, Techimantia to Derma and Derma to Asusou.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion were, a Minister of State, Mr Boniface Abubakar, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, deputy Minister for Roads, Me Owusu Aduomi, the clergy, Muslim community, political parties, chiefs and Queen mothers, opinion leaders, Presiding Member, Mr John Dadzie.
