While the breadth of access signals strong educational ambition, persistent infrastructure gaps, especially dormitories, classroom blocks, science laboratories, and furniture pose challenges for senior high schools.
For the district’s learning landscape, the breakdown and the gaps om the school landscape in numbers comprise of 241 basic schools in total made of 159 public and 82 private schools with the level breakdown of Nursery :86, Primary 86, Junior Secondary: 66, Senior Secondary: 3, Vocational Institute: 1, Tertiary Institution: 1.
However this trend in education for the district may come with challenges and implications such as inadequate student housing strains daily commuting which in turn affects attendance, raising health and safety concerns particularly for boarding SHS students.
Limitation in classroom and lab shortfall that may lead to crowded classrooms and constrained in practical science learning, hindering practical exposure and STEM uptake and insufficient desk, chairs and instructional furniture hampering effective teaching and learning environments all part of these challenges faced by the educational sector in the district.
Reflecting a strong priority on access to basic education, Asutifi North District’s education footprint is broad and active, but to translate access into excellence however, should target upgrade in dormitories, classrooms, science labs and furniture especially for senior high schools that shoulder a growing demand for quality STEM education.
