The presentation, held at the forecourt of the Assembly, was aimed at supporting the welfare and economic empowerment of PWDs to enhance their livelihoods and promote independent living.
Ten beneficiaries received deep freezers to support smallscale businesses, while one person received three sets of selfdish. Thirteen others were given various sums of money to support education, medical needs and livelihood activities.
Mr. Edmund Agboh, Municipal Chief Executive for Ga East, said the support aligned with Government policy requiring a portion of the DACF to be dedicated to improving the wellbeing of persons with disability.
“This support is not a favour but a right. The Assembly is committed to ensuring that persons with disability are empowered to live dignified and independent lives,” he said.
Mr. Agboh urged beneficiaries to use the items and funds productively, noting that the Assembly expected the support to translate into sustainable economic ventures.
“We want to see these items being used productively to improve your livelihoods and reduce dependency,” he added.
Ms Christine OseiBonsu, Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, said the Assembly remained committed to transparency and inclusiveness in the disbursement of the DACF.
She assured PWDs that their needs would continue to be prioritised in line with social protection policies and the Assembly’s development agenda.
Mr. Bismarck Gyamfi, Ga East President of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disability, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the Assembly, describing the support as timely and impactful.
“This intervention will go a long way to ease our challenges and help many of our members become selfreliant,” he said.
He called for continued collaboration between the Assembly and disability groups to further promote inclusion and empowerment in the municipality.
