Questions were asked on chapters of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which covered the rights and responsibilities of Ghanaians, current affairs and the state of governance.

The competition brought together participants from three schools, Prampram D/A Basic ‘A’ School, Adonai Baptist W. M. W School and the Bethel School Complex, which are within the municipality.

The competition ended with the Prampram D/A Basic ‘A’ school placing first, Bethel School Complex taking the second position and Adonai Baptist W.M.W. School placed third.

?Mr. Oppong Mensah, the Ningo-Prampram District Director of the NCCE, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the competition was organised to test the knowledge of the students on the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and other engagements of the NCCE.

Mr. Mensah stated that the major objective of the NCCE was to inculcate knowledge, values and attitudes that would help the students to be good citizens of Ghana.

He added that the slogan for the quiz, “Catch Them Young”, was in line with the NCCE belief that it was easier to impart knowledge, civic responsibilities and good morals to the pupils before they grow.

?He mentioned that it was only through these that the students would grow with the knowledge of the constitution, which will guide them to be responsible citizens in the future.?

The NCCE Director said that the commission is doing its best to impart knowledge, stating, however, that some schools do not give civic educators the privilege to engage the pupils.

?He added that they planned to organise the quiz among four schools, but the head teacher for one of the schools did not allow the students to participate, noting that the children did not prepare adequately to participate in the competition.

He therefore urged teachers and owners of the various schools within the municipality to work in collaboration with the NCCE to achieve its mandate and core values.

Mr. Mensah also encouraged students to take their civic education seriously, as it would help them to become responsible and law-abiding citizens.

He further pleaded with non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to support the NCCE to be able to impart knowledge into the community and country at large.

Mr. Emmanuel Buer Buernor, the Social Studies Tutor at the Prampram D/A Basic ‘A’ School, mentioned that, as part of the new curriculum, students were to learn about their rights and responsibilities; therefore, the NCCE quiz was very helpful in that light.

He pleaded with the NCCE to organise quizzes often to help students learn about the constitution and some current affairs and keep their minds fresh.

Miss Lovelyna Dzifa Fianu, a student at Prampram D/A Basic ‘A’ school and contestant, mentioned that the quiz has given them the opportunity to know their rights and responsibilities as children, which would prepare them to be responsible citizens of the country.

She added that the knowledge acquired from the quiz competition has made them to realize how proud they are of the country and urged her mates to participate in educational activities at school.
