Dr. Emmanuel Kwao Pecku, the Tema Metropolitan Veterinary Officer with oversight duty for Kpone-Katamanso, said that the free rabies exercise would commence on August 29 and end on October 02, 2025.
Dr Pecku said the exercise was put together by the Veterinary Services Department (VSD), Ghana Health Services (GHS), and Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) in collaboration with the United Kingdom-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mission Rabies.
He stated that it was important for every household to ensure that their pets were vaccinated against rabies infection, which could be fatal, hence, the need to comply with the directive to save lives within the municipality, stressing that certificates would be awarded to owners who present their animals for the vaccination exercise.
He indicated that the free rabies vaccination would be carried out across all the 18 electoral areas within the Kpone-Katamanso municipality and called on stakeholders, including the assembly members, to help disseminate the information to their respective electorates.
Dr Pecku further urged residents to cooperate with the veterinary officers who would be deployed into the various communities for the exercise, to enable them to meet the targeted threshold within the stipulated period.
