A new District Court has been inaugurated at Adukrom in the Okere District of the Eastern Region to improve access to justice and strengthen the administration of justice for residents in the area.

The inauguration, reported by the Okere District Assembly on February 17, 2026, marks an important development for residents who previously had to travel to Akropong, Mampong or Koforidua to attend court hearings and pursue legal matters.

The establishment of the court is expected to reduce the difficulties associated with long-distance travel, including transportation costs, time spent on journeys and the inconvenience faced by litigants, witnesses and other persons required to appear before the courts.

For many residents, having a court within the district will make it easier to access judicial services and seek redress through the formal justice system. It is also expected to improve convenience for people involved in civil and other legal proceedings, while supporting the timely handling of cases within the area.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chief Justice of Ghana, highlighting the importance of the facility to justice delivery and the promotion of the rule of law.

The establishment of the court also represents an effort to bring essential public services closer to the people, particularly residents who may face financial and logistical challenges when travelling outside the district for legal proceedings.

Access to justice remains an important part of good governance, as it enables individuals and communities to seek fair hearings, resolve disputes through lawful means and protect their rights under the law.

With the new court at Adukrom, residents of Okere are expected to benefit from improved proximity to judicial services, while the facility is expected to contribute to the broader administration of justice in the district.

The inauguration therefore marks a significant step towards making justice more accessible to residents and strengthening respect for the rule of law within the Okere District.
