The cleric made the appeal during a special service organised by the church’s Men’s Fellowship. The event was designed to honour mothers and included free health screening for all women in the church, regardless of age.
Organisers said the celebration also featured a luncheon recognising the nurturing roles of women, with heartfelt tributes, special gifts, and acknowledgements for all women—including spiritual mothers and mentors—to emphasise their value and strength in faith.
Mrs. Gladys, a mother and leader of the women’s fellowship, told Ghana Districts that the church frequently gives gifts to all women in attendance, such as flowers, devotionals, and other tokens of appreciation.
She advised women to take up their responsibilities by training their children and preparing them for a better future. Mrs. Gladys also cautioned young girls to wait until they are fully matured and well-prepared before giving birth.
Mr. Solomon, leader of the men’s fellowship, said the celebration honours the joy of motherhood while acknowledging the pain of those who have lost mothers or children, or who struggle with infertility. He noted that the event is meant to make women feel honoured and loved by their church, their children, and the community.
“Mother’s Day at church clearly shows that the church recognises our women, both in the church and in the community,” Mr. Solomon added.
Rev. Father Effa explained that the celebration is also intended to empower young ladies in the church, especially those who are not yet married, those without children, and those who may not be fully responsible for their wards.
He urged women of the Roman Catholic Church’s Prang branch in the Pru West District to take their responsibilities seriously, particularly in grooming young girls to become special mothers.
“We organised a lot of activities, including jogging and a health screening, to boost our women’s health and show how much we love them and appreciate all they have done for us,” Rev. Father Effa said.
In his final remarks, the priest advised men to stop abusing women. He also cautioned women to be submissive and humble toward their husbands and children.
