Mayor visits communities, inspects ongoing electoral area projects

The Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, has embarked on a working visit to communities in the metropolis to inspect ongoing electoral area projects and assess the challenges faced by residents.

The Mayor accompanied by a team of officials from the Assembly inspected projects including a 10-unit WC toilet facility, in the Okaikoi Sub-Metropolitan District, the newly constructed Agbogbloshie Market Shed for Plantain Sellers, a child care facility for informal workers at Old Fadama, a 3-storey 18-unit classroom block & 3-unit nursey block with computer laboratory, library, 2 laboratories and washrooms for the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools as well as a sanitation court in the Ashiedu-Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District.

The Mayor also assessed some existing situations that require urgent attention, this includes the Kaneshie footbridge which requires maintenance, an uncompleted office block for the Okaikoi Sub-Metropolitan Council and the Abolo Bridge in New Mamprobi among others.

The Mayor who interacted with residents, emphasised the AMA's commitment to addressing the needs of residents and stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment.

Speaking to the media after the visit the Mayor expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing projects while acknowledging the importance of addressing identified challenges.

" As part of the Assembly members’ electoral area projects, we asked them to identify and submit areas they would need support and challenges within their electoral areas. Thankfully they have submitted their list and we are here to have first-hand information about the challenges and how best to resolve them, " she said.

She used the opportunity to urge residents to desist from dumping solid waste into drains and open spaces to prevent the reoccurrence of flooding in the city and avoid prosecution.
