The landmark initiative, executed on February 26, 2026, was spearheaded by the District Chief Executive, Isaac Yawson, in collaboration with Member of Parliament David Vondee and Council of State representative Hakeem Addae.

Installed across strategic communities and public spaces, the solar streetlights are expected to dramatically improve nighttime visibility, enhance public safety, and reduce crime while boosting economic and social activities after dark.

Unlike conventional systems, the solar-powered lights operate independently of the national electricity grid, ensuring uninterrupted illumination while promoting clean and sustainable energy use. The move positions Twifo Ati-Morkwa as one of the districts embracing green infrastructure to drive development.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of unity in leadership and development delivery. They urged residents to protect the installations from vandalism and misuse, emphasizing that community ownership is key to sustaining the project’s long-term benefits.

The lights have now been formally handed over to the Assembly, which will oversee maintenance and supervision to guarantee durability and efficiency.

For many residents, the intervention marks more than just improved lighting — it represents renewed hope for safer streets, thriving night-time businesses, and enhanced quality of life.

With this transformative solar lighting project, Twifo Ati-Morkwa is not just switching on streetlights — it is illuminating a new path toward safety, sustainability, and inclusive development.
