The brought together representatives of the Christian Council, Islamic Council, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ashaiman Divisional Council, private schools and the Ghana Education Service (GES), as well as officials of the Assembly.
The Municipal Education Directorate informed the Committee that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results had been released, with candidates recording average overall performance. It added that candidates from private schools also performed creditably.
On infrastructure development, Mr Tsekpo said construction of the Ashaiman Presby School Block was progressing steadily, with one section currently at the roofing stage. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed and handed over by the end of the year.
The MCE also disclosed the Assembly’s long-term plan to redevelop the Cluster of Schools with three-storey, 18-classroom blocks. The initiative is intended to address overcrowding and eventually eliminate the shift system across the Municipality. A design team has already been tasked with working on the project.
The Municipal Engineer, in a separate briefing, outlined efforts to revive abandoned Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects, including three-, six- and 12-unit classroom blocks.
He said the Assembly was undertaking an inventory and costing exercise to facilitate the release of funds and pave the way for the completion of the abandoned projects.
On sanitation, the Committee agreed that schools should take the lead in promoting waste segregation following the ASHMA forum held on July 30, 2026.
The Assembly is collaborating with Smart Plastics Recycling Limited and Safisana Ghana Limited to facilitate the free collection of properly segregated waste from schools.
