The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yilo Krobo, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, on June 9, 2026, handed over the furniture as part of efforts to provide a conducive learning environment and eliminate the practice of pupils sitting and writing on the floor.

The items comprised 222 mono desks, 124 dual desks, and 94 teachers' tables and chairs, which are expected to address the growing furniture deficit in schools across the municipality.

Presenting the furniture, Hon. Akumatey reiterated the Assembly's commitment to enhancing access to quality basic education through the provision of essential educational infrastructure and logistics.

He commended the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for fulfilling commitments aimed at improving the education sector and ensuring that learners study under better conditions.

The MCE assured residents that the Assembly would continue to provide furniture annually to gradually eliminate desk shortages in schools within the municipality.

He further disclosed that newly constructed classroom blocks in the municipality would be equipped with modern furniture to create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Hon. Akumatey also appealed to education authorities and school management teams to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure the longevity of the furniture.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Directorate, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. John K. Gasu, expressed appreciation to the President and the Municipal Assembly for the timely intervention.

He noted that the provision of adequate furniture would contribute significantly to improving academic performance and enhancing the dignity of learners and teachers.

Mr. Gasu assured the Assembly that the beneficiary schools would put the furniture to good use and maintain them properly. He, however, appealed for additional furniture support for kindergarten schools within the municipality.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Presiding Member of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Hon. Edwin Yao Tengey, as well as the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul-Hussein A. Rasheed, who thanked officials of the Municipal Education Directorate, staff of the Assembly and members of the media for their participation.

The intervention is expected to improve classroom conditions, support effective teaching and learning, and strengthen efforts to provide quality education for every child in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
