The project is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader agenda to drive economic growth and accelerate infrastructure development in district-level economies.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held last Friday, June 5, 2026, also aligns with the President’s nationwide “resetting agenda,” which aims to bring government closer to citizens, engage grassroots communities, and provide updates on key policies and development initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Somuah said the facility, once completed, will include:
* A day-care centre
* Restaurants
* Police and fire stations
* A clinic
* Cold storage units
* A lorry station
* Lockable shops and warehouses
* Market management offices
* Improved sanitation systems
* 24/7 banking services for traders and non-traders

The DCE noted that the new market is expected to significantly curb unemployment within the local system by creating round-the-clock commercial activity.

The Paramount Chief of Nsuta, Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere II, recalled the town’s long-standing reputation as a vibrant trading hub.

“Historically, Nsuta has been a market town for many years, but over time, the infrastructure has not kept pace, affecting its redevelopment and growth,” he said.

He added that the project is part of a nationwide initiative to develop 261 modern district-level markets. “I urgently plead with His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama, to fulfil his promise and complete this market for the benefit of Nsutaman, surrounding areas, and the people of Ashanti,” the chief stated.

The Member of Parliament for Sekyere Central (Nsuta Kwamang Beposo Constituency), Hon. Adelaide Yaa Agyeiwaa, said the initiative would transform the district and boost the local economy.

However, she also issued a caution to the current government: “Make sure you, the NDC government, complete the important legacy project which the previous government left behind – the Agenda 111 health initiatives in the Sekyere Central District.”
The contractor for the project is IBM Company Ltd (Tamale), while ECO-PLANNERS & ENGINEERING CONSULT serves as the supervising consultant.
