The operation followed an earlier exercise led by the Blue Water Guard, which resulted in the arrest of five Chinese nationals suspected to be involved in illegal mining within the municipality. Building on that intervention, the latest operation targeted identified illegal mining sites posing serious threats to water bodies, farmlands, and the environment.

During the exercise, three Changfang machines being used for illegal mining were traced and destroyed. Additionally, two individuals found actively engaging in illegal mining were arrested and subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and prosecution.

The operation was carried out successfully without any incidents, thanks to the strong collaboration and coordination among the participating security agencies. The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Brako Kusi, commended the professionalism and cooperation displayed by the security personnel during the exercise.

The intervention forms part of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly’s sustained commitment to protecting natural resources, safeguarding the environment, maintaining law and order, and ensuring strict compliance with environmental and mining regulations. The Assembly has reiterated its resolve to intensify efforts to eliminate illegal mining and preserve the municipality’s ecosystems for present and future generations.
