Minister Inaugrates UENR Medical School Committee

This move is part of efforts to establish a medical school at UENR, which aims to boost healthcare in the Bono Region and beyond.
The establishment of the medical school follows the elevation of the Sunyani Regional Hospital to a Teaching Hospital status. The medical school is expected to take-off this year will enhance healthcare delivery, medical education and provide research and academic excellence. It will also address the region’s healthcare needs by training more doctors locally.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Akwaboa said the operationalization of the Medical School was a key component of the Presidents vision under the Reset Agenda, which seeks to expand access to quality healthcare, strengthen institutions, decentralize opportunities for advanced professional training, and invest boldly in human capital development. 
He noted that the initiative demonstrates Government’s resolve to translate policy into tangible outcomes and ensure that UENR Medical School becomes fully operational without unnecessary delay. “This initiative is a clear demonstration that, the Reset Agenda is not a slogan; it is a structured commitment to rebuild confidence in our public institutions, expand opportunity equitably, and deliver real development outcomes to the Ghanaian people”, he said.
Addressing the committee, the Minister said their nomination was a responsibility being entrusted, in recognition of their competence, prowess and indeed capacity to contribute to national transformation in various forms.
“This is not a routine assignment. It is a strategic responsibility”, he added.
The Committee has been tasked to:
• Review the progress made so far towards the establishment of the Medical School;
• Identify outstanding academic, infrastructural, financial, and regulatory requirements;
• Propose clear, practical, and time-bound strategies for operationalization;
• Strengthen coordination among Government, the University, health institutions, and accreditation authorities; and
• Ensure that the Medical School meets the highest professional standards.
The Minister emphasized that under the Reset Agenda, the focused was on implementation, accountability, and measurable progress and that the people of Bono Region expect to see this Medical School functioning, not just discussed.
The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Nyamekye Marfo assured that the Regional Minster that the committee was made of competence professionals and would deliver an excellent job.
