The system, developed by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and implemented by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is designed to control speed on roads in Ghana based on the required speed per kilometer, depending on the nature of the road and the settlement in which it is located.

The implementation follows the legal framework established under Regulation 242 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519). It is hoped to effectively reduce road accidents, injuries, and fatalities by capturing traffic violations digitally using advanced technology.

Road users had an additional one-month period to familiarize themselves with the rollout, which was originally planned for October 1 but was rescheduled to November 1 to allow for a comprehensive public sensitization campaign.

Though there are about 47 offences under the regulation, the system initially prioritizes speeding violations and running red lights, and offenders will be notified digitally.

Motorists are therefore reminded to be conscious of their speed limits and to strictly adhere to traffic lights to avoid being issued tickets.
