Kobedi Community to Perform Rituals to Reopen Local Basic School

He explained that Nana Ameyaa Ansu Gyeabour I, the queen mother of the town in the Bono Region, ordered the closure of the school and directed teachers to stay home until the rituals were performed to revoke an alleged curse placed on the school.

The performance of the rituals follows the demise of two headmasters after a community member, who claimed spiritual ownership of the school, allegedly invoked curses on anyone who headed the school.

Accordingly, teachers have since Monday, May 19, abandoned classes, with classrooms locked with padlocks, as the community linked the deaths, which occurred between December 2025 and April 2026, to the alleged curse.

In an interview in Sunyani, Mr. Baffoe explained that the reasons behind the alleged curses remained unclear, adding that his office had since met with the queen mother over the issue.

However, the queen mother insisted that the rituals must be performed to pacify the local deity before the school could be reopened.

Mr. Baffoe said, “The queen mother informed us that the community would go through the rituals today, and as we speak now, they are performing the rituals.”

He assured that the school would resume classes on Monday, May 25, 2026.
