Out of a total road length of 323.5 kilometres in the district, feeder roads dominate with 66%, followed by highways at 29%, while urban roads account for just 5%. However, the condition of these roads paints a worrying picture.

Only 50.66 kilometres—representing 15.66% of the total road network—are tarred, leaving the majority of roads either untarred or severely deteriorated.

Particularly alarming is the state of the feeder roads, which serve as critical links between urban centres and rural communities. Of the 213.5 kilometres of feeder roads, about 75% are in poor condition, making movement of goods and people increasingly difficult.

Residents and stakeholders have raised concerns that the deplorable state of these roads is affecting agricultural transport, market access, and overall economic productivity in the district.

The feeder roads, which are the backbone of local commerce and connectivity, play a vital role in linking farming communities to markets and service centres. Their current state, however, poses a major setback to development.

Calls are growing for urgent intervention to rehabilitate and upgrade these roads to improve accessibility, boost trade, and enhance livelihoods across the district.

Without swift action, many fear the situation could further hinder growth and deepen challenges for communities that rely heavily on these critical road networks.
