The site inspection brought together the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, a technical team from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), officials of the Ghana Manganese Company and other stakeholders to assess the suitability of the location for the strategic investment.
The proposed refinery forms part of government's broader agenda to promote value addition within Ghana's mining sector and maximise the economic benefits derived from the country's vast mineral resources.
Stakeholders at the inspection expressed optimism that the project would transform the economic landscape of the municipality by creating employment opportunities, attracting investment and stimulating industrial growth.
The initiative aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to establish local processing facilities that will reduce the export of raw minerals and increase value retention within the country.
When completed, the refinery is expected to generate significant direct and indirect jobs, particularly for the youth, while creating opportunities for local businesses and service providers.
The project is also anticipated to position Tarkwa Nsuaem as a major industrial and commercial destination in the Western Region, leveraging its strategic role as one of Ghana's leading mining centres.
Officials noted that the successful implementation of the refinery project would not only boost the local economy but also contribute substantially to national revenue generation, industrialisation and sustainable development.
The inspection marks an important milestone in the planning process and reinforces ongoing efforts to translate Ghana's mineral wealth into long-term economic benefits for communities and the nation as a whole.
