Mrs Fati Kine Lam, the Bono Regional NADMO Director, presented the items during a brief ceremony held at Banda-Bongase. She explained that the life jackets are intended to safeguard children, fishermen, and fishmongers who cross the Bui Dam reservoir.

She stressed that the safety of residents remains a top priority, adding that the government is committed to addressing emerging safety challenges facing fishing communities across the country.

“NADMO is established to prevent and manage disasters,” Mrs Lam said, urging community leaders to ensure that the life jackets are used strictly for their intended purpose.

She further advised that all boat users, especially children, must wear life jackets before boarding canoes or boats on the reservoir.

Mrs Lam also called for stronger collaboration between traditional authorities, the Banda District Assembly, and other stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to safety measures on the Bui Dam reservoir.

The Banda District Chief Executive, Mr Peter Dongi, also encouraged residents to prioritise personal safety and consistently wear life jackets when using the reservoir.

Mr. Yusif Dauda, Chairman of the local fishing committee, expressed gratitude to NADMO for the support and pledged that community members would comply with safety guidelines to prevent accidents on the reservoir.

He noted that the fishing community has a population of about 2,000 people and appealed for additional life jackets to further enhance safety on the water.
