The projects, implemented under the theme “Strengthening WASH Systems to Improve Family Lives,” are expected to significantly enhance the living conditions of residents and schoolchildren while promoting better public health outcomes.

The newly commissioned facilities comprise mechanized boreholes and toilet facilities located at Akurakan, Tano Ano, Susuanho, and Duayaw Nkwanta.

The projects include a mechanized borehole at Akurakan Community; a mechanized borehole and toilet facility at Tano Ano Community; a mechanized borehole and toilet facility at the Susuanho R/C Cluster School; and a mechanized borehole and toilet facility at the Duayaw Nkwanta Islamic Basic School.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the projects and commended the development partners for their support towards improving water and sanitation services in the municipality.

According to the MCE, the facilities will provide clean and safe drinking water to more than 4,000 residents and pupils, while also offering dignified sanitation facilities in schools to enhance teaching and learning.

The MCE noted that improved access to water and sanitation would help reduce the prevalence of water-borne diseases, improve hygiene practices, and contribute to healthier families and communities.

He further emphasized that the provision of sanitation facilities in schools would help improve school attendance, particularly among girls, by creating a safer and more conducive learning environment.

The Municipal Chief Executive, however, cautioned community leaders, school authorities, and facility management teams to take ownership of the projects and ensure their proper maintenance.

He stressed that while the Assembly would collaborate with water boards and school management teams to establish maintenance plans, the sustainability of the facilities largely depends on the commitment of beneficiary communities.

“The protection and maintenance of these facilities are crucial. We must ensure that future generations continue to benefit from these investments,” he stated.

The MCE expressed appreciation to IRC Ghana and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their continued commitment to improving the welfare of the people of Tano North.

He described their support as a significant investment in human dignity, health, and community development.

The Municipal Assembly also called on traditional authorities, Assembly Members, and residents to actively support efforts to safeguard the facilities and promote proper sanitation practices.

The commissioning of the eight WASH facilities forms part of broader efforts to strengthen water and sanitation systems across the municipality and improve the quality of life of residents.

The Assembly disclosed that additional WASH projects are in the pipeline as part of its commitment to expanding access to essential social services and accelerating development in communities across Tano North.
