Some galamsey activity in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district in the Northern region which surfaced in the Kpali community within the Black Volta river has ceased in the area, DCE for the assembly, Isaac Mumuni Dramani revealed.

Mr Isaac Dramani echoed recently in an assembly meeting at Sawla that the onslaught of this unpopular activity has been suspended following the intervention of the District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC).

This activity reportedly had the potential of preventing substantial volumes of water flowing into the Bui dam for generation of electricity.

Thus owing to the deliberate action by government against illegal mining in the country, the DCE has cautioned both locals and the foreigners who are into this business in the area to desist from it else risked facing the full rigors of the law when apprehended.
