BIRIM S:Assembly elects PM, fails to confirm DCE
The Birim South Assembly has elected Mr. Richmond Amponsah, a 42 year old businessman as the new Presiding Member (PM).

The Birim South Assembly has elected Mr. Richmond Amponsah, a 42 year old businessman as the new Presiding Member (PM).
He polled 31 votes out of 39votes to beat his challenger Mr. James Anim Asare-Bediako, an educationist for the position.
In his acceptance speech, the new PM was grateful for the confidence reposed in him and called for their support to push the agenda of providing better living conditions for the people especially in deprived communities.
He was later sworn into office by Mr. Yao Atta Sampong, Akim Swedru Circuit Court Judge.
Meanwhile, the fate of Nana Baffuor Takyi who has been reappointed as the District Chief Executive for the area hangs in the balance following his inability to obtain the two-third majority for his confirmation.
In an election conducted for 39 assembly members present, the DCE polled 21 votes representing 53.8 percent with 17 votes against also representing 46.2 percent and one rejected vote.
The next election is to be held within 10 days.
