ATEBUBU: Ministry of Interior to establish military base at Atebubu

The Ministry of Interior and the National Security secretariat have approved the establishment of a military base in Atebubu to help curb the insurgence of criminal activities in the area and other adjoining districts like Sene east, Sene west as well as Pru.

The Ministry of Interior and the National Security secretariat have approved the establishment of a military base in Atebubu to help curb the insurgence of criminal activities in the area and other adjoining districts like Sene east, Sene west as well as Pru.

This was disclosed by the Atebubu Amantin District Chief Executive Mr. Sampson Owusu Boateng at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly for this year.

He said the traditional authorities have already released land in this direction and hoped that the project will come to fruition by mid next year.

 The DCE spoke about arrangements to get a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority office in the district to help reduce the use of unregistered vehicles and motorbikes which are sometimes used in criminal activities.

On education, he said the assembly is considering the sponsorship of teachers to pursue further studies so they can serve the district in turn on the completion of their courses.

The DCE told the house that strenuous efforts are being made to secure the services of an additional medical doctor to help the existing one whiles funds are being sourced to complete the district mortuary all in a bid to improve health care delivery in the district.

On efforts at ensuring the regular flow of water to Atebubu and its environs Mr. Owusu Boateng touched on moves to source funds from the United Arab Emirates through a  philanthropist and the submission of proposals to the ministry of water resources works and housing for the replacement of the existing worn out PVC pipes.

Throwing light on the rural electrification project which aims at hooking 37 communities in the district to the national grid, he said work is progressing at Abamba whiles that of Duduso has already been completed.

The DCE stressed that an amount of GHC 130,079.76 was collected as IGF as at the end of March this year representing 87.25% of projected revenue whiles GHC 1995,262.00 is expected as the assembly’s share of the common fund for this year.

In a contribution, the Member of Parliament for the Atebubu-Amantin constituency Mr. Sanja Nanja said Parliament has approved a loan facility for the purchase of road maintenance equipment like trucks, bulldozers and graders by the assemblies adding that although this will not be deducted from the common fund the fund will be used as guarantee for the granting of the loan.
