The Atebubu-Amantin District Assembly has been handed over three out of a total of five educational facilities funded by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID.
The projects include two 3 unit classroom blocks with offices and staff common rooms each for the Atebubu Methodist and Anglican Junior High Schools and one three seater institutional toilet for the Ahotor D.A primary school.
Two buildings to house a kindergarten each at Atebubu and Amantin are also at various levels of completion.
Handing over the facilities the director in charge of funds and procurement at the Ministry of Education Dr. Felix Nelson Amoako said the projects come under a $ 19.7 m U.S government grant aimed at improving access to education, school sanitation and equitable distribution of educational facilities.
Under the arrangement which has a government of Ghana counterpart funding of $ 2 m, 38 deprived districts countrywide are to benefit from a total of 159 educational facilities made up of: 15 education offices, 50 kindergartens, 49 junior high schools and 45 three seater toilet facilities.
The Atebubu-Amantin District Chief Executive Mr. Sampson Owusu Boateng who received the keys to the projects expressed his gratitude to the ministry for the assistance and urged the beneficiary communities especially the PTA’s to ensure that children of school going age go to school.
He said the provision of the facilities will compliment the enforcement of the “truancy free policy” of the assembly and its stakeholders as well as give meaning to the efforts of the USAID.
