A Chief in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to go the extra mile to improving performance of schools in the district.

A Chief in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to go the extra mile to improving performance of schools in the district.

He was not enthuse about the academic performance of students in the district and challenged all stakeholders including parents and guardians to join hands to improve quality teaching and learning in the area.

The Chief of Asempanaye, Nana Kofi Aboagye II made the appeal during a Town-Hall meeting at Akumadan, the district capital.

He also appealed to parents to monitor their ward’s academic performance by visiting their schools saying “proper supervision of children, both home and school would help motivate them to be good at all times”.

In attendance were parents and guardians, students, school management committees opinion leaders and other stakeholders who expressed their views on how to improve students’ performance in the area.

The Assistant Director, in-charge of statistics and planning at the district education office, Mr Justice Tayasi said the directorate would not hesitate to sanction any teacher who indulged in offences such as absenteeism and vacation of post without permission.

Mr Tayasi who, also chaired the meeting reiterated  the commitment of the directorate to do away of absenteeism, lateness and alcoholism which is a contributory factor to the falling standard of education in the district and reechoed the directorate appeal to teachers to give up their best in order to lift up performance of schools in the district.
