The Municipal Chief Executive of La-Nkwantanang-Madina, Mr Franklyn Anku, on Monday released the Disability Fund from his Municipal Common Fund totaling GH¢ 49,375.29 for disabled persons.

He presented a cheque for GH¢ 16,458.43 each to the representatives of the blind, the deaf and the physically challenged persons at a short ceremony.

The recipients for the three groups were Mr. George Quartey for the Deaf, Mr. Modzaka Gershon, for the visually impaired who is a first year student of the University of Ghana Legon, and Mr. William Asante received it on behalf of the physically challenged persons.

Mr. Modzaka thanked the MCE for helping to disburse the money to them and pledged to co-operate with the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly.  The MCE said from time to time the Committee for the Disability Fund would visit the various groups to see how far the disbursement had been carried out.

The Head of Social Welfare Unit attached to the Municipal Assembly, Mrs. Millicent Nyarko, said about 122 disabled persons have been registered by the Assembly and gave the breakdown as deaf 60, the physically challenged 34 and the visually impaired as 28.
