The La Nkwantanang/Madina Municipal Assembly is calling for government intervention to help the assembly secure land to put up its administrative office.
As one of the newly created MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region, curved out of the Ga East Municipality, the assembly is faced with infrastructure challenges to accommodate its offices. An office complex is one of the basic requirements to enable smooth administrative work to enhance accelerated development of the municipality.
Currently, the small office space located near the Madina Market is woefully inadequate for the staff resulting in congestions in most of the offices. The assembly has also been compelled by the situation to spend a lot of money on rent for properties it leased for its decentralized departments.
Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Dramani Saaka said though the assembly is poised to construct a befitting municipal complex, there is hardly a space to put up such structure. “There are no open spaces left for this kind of project unless we move out of the municipality which would not be appropriate”, he stated.
However, the MCD said, the assembly is seeking the support of government and the sector ministry, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for the release of the Social Welfare Land to the assembly for the establishment of its permanent office structure. He noted that the last is vast enough to serve the intended purpose.
